Hi I found this on the net and as it is 70-80 related I thought why not place it on the board .
Classic Pop at Bickerling
They were songs sung into a million hairbrush's by love lorn and partying teenagers and which have filled the dance floors ever since.
Classic hits from the 1970s and 1980s echoed around Bickling Park as the stately amphitheatre marked 10 years of pop concerts with two all star gigs.
it was like a giant karaoke party with one big difference . As the 130.000 strong crowd over two nights sang along to the anthems of their youth, they were not led by a CD player but by the chart topping stars themselfs from Gloria Gaynor and Tony Hadley to the Bay City Rollers and the Osmond's.
Saturdays sell out anniversary party saw Haircut 100 front man Nick Heyward kick off the fantastic day with Love Plus One with a couple of women in the crowd commentating "thats him isn't it"? "He's put on a bit of weight" claws in girls!.
Others had worn well including a none to shy Limahl sported a 21st century version of his trademark haircut which he confessed must have got many a child banned from school in the 80s.
T'Paus Carole Decker looking trim in tight trousers and jacket to match her mane of red hair had the crowd singing China in your Hand after telling them "Botox is a wionderfull thing girls".
Things began to rock when surprise guest Toyah who was replacing an ill Paul Young , she exploded onto the stage in a black PVC cat suit to blast out Guns N Roses Sweet Child Of Mine before singing her own hits.
the real singalong happened when Midge Ure dispite wearing an unrock and roll dodgy looking anorak struck up Vienna.
and the party survived a rather overripe Bananarama when the two last remaining members were joined by two male dancers and a deafening backing track to reel off five numbers including Venus . it was a routine compared to the other acts was cheesy karaoke and must have left people wondering why they are one of the most successfull girl groups today.
the evening was rescued by The Weathergirls daughter and niece of the originals and they whipped up the crowd with Its Raining Men, while a sophisticated Belinda Carlisle with her hair in a ponytail had the crowd joining in with Heaven is a place on Earth though her voice did seem to go weak.
headliners for Saturday were a black suited Tony Hadley who scored a strong hat trick of singalong hits including True ' Gold and Through the Barricades leaving Gloria Gaynor to end the night with the timeless I Will Survive. earlier in the evening the sea of girls were doing the one hand in the air and wriggle thing while the blokes stood beside them with a beer bottle in crossed arms looking hard and unimpressed.
at the finale however fuelled by none stop hits and booze they were a sea of seething dancing or as one fan put it feeling like a teenager again.
the second party night shifted back to the 70s with a trio of big names who only drew a 3.000 strong crowd. the tragic fashion days of tartan trimmings were recalled when Les and his Bay City Rollers launched into Shang a Lang singalong accompanied by the highland fling of scarfs.
Evergreen but graying David Essex rocked on through his hits in cludeing Gonna Make You A Star and Hold Me Close with his cheeky charm. and it was left to three Osmonds Jimmy,Jay and Merrill to close the weekend with the familys famous ballads and a medley of seventies favorites before digging their spurs into the manic Crazy Horses.
