Bolan's partner recalls death smash
Friday, September 7 2007, By Dave West Marc Bolan's partner has spoken about the 30th anniversary of the singer's death - and recalled the car crash that killed him.
Gloria Jones, who had the rock star's child in 1975, was driving the purple Mini when it spun out of control and smashed into a tree on September 16, 1977.
She said she is looking forward to celebrating his life.
On Saturday ITV1 is airing a documentary, Marc Bolan: 20th Century Boy, about his early life and on Monday a new double-disc greatest hits will be released. Then an all-star concert is planned for Shepherd's Bush Empire on September 15.
Jones, in an interview with the Daily Mirror, said: "We are celebrating his life, his music and his legacy. We would like for this time to be a happy time because Marc was a happy person."
She continued, recalling the circumstances of the T.Rex frontman's death in Barnes, south west London, to explain how their son Rolan was crucial in helping her through.
"I didn't come out of shock for over 14 years. It was all so difficult for me to understand. And my body was trying to heal.
"When I think about the accident now, I think about Rolan - because without him and my other son I don't know if I would have made it. Marc was my soulmate, but Rolan was nearly two when his father died - how could I not go on? Marc would not have wanted that."

The three-CD box set includes recordings that the frontman made at the Paris Theatre London, and on the Top Gear, Dave Lee Travis and Bob Harris radio shows.
