Springsteen expects 'Magic' criticism Monday, October 8 2007
Bruce Springsteen has claimed that he expects to be criticised for his highly politicised lyrics on new album Magic.
The 'Born In The USA' singer makes several references to the Iraq War and President Bush on his album, which was released last week, but argues that this doesn't make him unpatriotic.
Springsteen told CBS News: "I believe every citizen has a stake in the course, direction of their country. That's why we vote.
"It's unpatriotic at any given moment to sit back and let things pass that are damaging to some place that you love so dearly and that has given me so much."
The lyrics to the track 'Livin' in the Future' on the album are rumoured to be about the Iraq war.
They include the lines: "My ship Liberty sailed away on a bloody red horizon, the groundskeeper opened the gates and let the wild dogs run / My faith's been torn asunder, tell me, is that rolling thunder or just the sinkin' sound of somethin' righteous
