Former 'Ramones' manager found murdered in New York NEW YORK (AFP) - The one-time manager of seminal punk rock band "The Ramones" has been found beaten to death in her Fifth Avenue apartment in New York, police said Thursday. Linda Stein, 62, was discovered lying face down in a pool of blood on Tuesday after being bludgeoned to death in the head and neck, police said. The city's medical examiner ruled the death a homicide. Police said that an investigation was ongoing but declined to say if they were pursuing any specific lines of inquiry. There was no sign of a break-in at Stein's up-market apartment, they said. After managing "The Ramones" during the 1970s, Stein went on to work as a real estate broker, with clients including Madonna, Sting, Billy Joel, Angelina Jolie, Steven Spielberg, Bruce Willis and Michael Douglas. She earned the name "Realtor to the Stars" and was very close to Elton John, who is godfather to her daughter. "I don't have a lot of friends in their 60s who are hit on the head in their chic apartments. It makes no sense," her friend and co-manager of "The Ramones" Danny Fields was quoted as saying by the New York Daily News. "She was a wonderful and joyful and generous woman -- and she wore great shoes," the New York Post quoted him as saying. Stein is credited with kick-starting the British punk movement and thereby giving a leg-up to groups such as "The Sex Pistols" and "The Clash" by taking "The Ramones" to England for a breakthrough gig in London in 1976. _________________________________________________ OMG what is the world comeing too thank you for this news Helen .
