His concert is almost a month away, but Elton John has already set a record at the Sioux Falls Arena. Tickets to his concert sold out in just 18 minutes - faster than any other show. And that has some questioning how that's possible.
Packs of people lined up at the arena hoping to score tickets to the October seventh Elton John concert. But minutes after the doors opened, all the tickets were gone.
Sioux Falls Arena Executive Director Russ DeCurtins says, "My guess was about 30 minutes. We had a little office pool. Everywhere from 20 minutes to two hours for our guesses.”
But all of those guesses were too high. Every Elton John ticket was gone in just 18 minutes. While some blame brokers, hoping to resell tickets for a profit, arena management says that not the case.
"You've got a small number of tickets. A small product of 7,000 tickets and probably 20,000 people in the market that would have bought a ticket," says DeCurtins.
Sales for this concert also had a boost from ticketmaster's online sales, which turns your personal computer into a personal box office.
"Every computer is an outlet,” explains DeCurtins. “And every computer has equal access to those tickets because the system is set up to not discriminate from one area to another."
In fact, 68 percent of the Elton John tickets were sold online.
And for those turned away from the ticket counter, DeCurtins says not to hold your breath for the release of anymore tickets.
He says, "There's a slim sliver that we'll be able to release a few tickets, but it's not going to be very many."
Which means your chance to get tickets, might be gone like a candle in the wind.
But if you are still looking for tickets, some online sources are selling them for as much as $500.
