Ono to unveil Lennon peace tower Wednesday, September 12 2007
By Dave West
Yoko Ono is to unveil a peace tower dedicated to John Lennon, in Iceland, on what would have been his 67th birthday.
The statue, making large use of light, will be engraved with the words "imagine peace" in 24 languages, and will be launched in Reykjavik on October 9.
Apparently Ono designed the tower 40 years ago and Lennon predicted it would become a reality.
The installation will also feature wishes written down by 100,000 people and put in capsules. They will be buried around the area.
The ex-Beatle's widow said: "I consider myself very fortunate to see the dream my husband and I dreamt together become reality."
She has invited "like-minded friends from all over the world" to the ceremony and said Iceland was ideal because it is "very unique" and "eco-friendly".
