Bono honoured at AIDS charity event
Bono has received an award for his humanitarian work at an AIDS charity event in New York.
The U2 frontman was given a Liberty Medal at the ceremony, held to raise money for the Keep A Child Alive foundation
Alicia Keys, who co-founded the charity, described him as "an amazing man", adding that he "works tirelessly at really having a cause and fighting for it".
She said: "He is an inspiration and single-handedly made it cool to have something to speak about."
Accepting the award, Bono said: "Rock stars always want to do two things. They want to have fun and change the world. If they can do both at the same time, you're okay."
Gwen Stefani, David Bowie, Jay-Z and Sheryl Crow also attended the event.
The Keep A Child Alive Foundation provides treatment to AIDS victims in Africa.
